It ended up being the USB-C mic , as soon as I plug that in to the USB C port, the machine does not POST.

Maybe the surge, has borked the port so it tries to output video or something ?

For now, i can just use a USB c to usb A adapter and the mic works fine.
Are you using a case USB C or the motherboard?

I don’t think my case has USB on the case

You can see it here

So my mic was plugged in to the type C port on the motherboard (I think it only has one!

Without knowing the full specs of the system, it's hard to know what exactly may be happening. On a prebuilt, they usually only just account for the PSU, leaving very little headroom, it's possible the power cut has caused a slight issue with the PSU and the current draw from the mic over USB C (which I believe can be up to 100W, although I'm sure a Mic would be far under this) could be taking it over it's limit.

Or yes, perhaps there is some hardware issue on the USB C port after the power cut, that would surprise me though as you have a surge protector, and the PSU should have taken the brunt (unless it's a CV tier PSU which is quite possible).

I would definitely register the PC with PCS so you can get access to your online account and full specs list.

I would definitely want to get it checked out at some point, you're going to want that USB C port, everything is moving that way, aside from the massively improved transfer speeds, it's really nice not having to use adapters.

You also need that PC Speaker fixed as that will make future troubleshooting far easier.

I would RMA that anyway. That doesn't sound at all good.
Yeah, that's the question, is there something else in the chain that may have been compromised but has yet to show it's head.

I wouldn't settle for it, I'd definitely get the board replaced. Or at least test it with another USB C device that requires some power alongside it.

I did register the PC with PCS today, that was step 1 of the RMA process. I have pasted the spec below if it helps

I wonder if they can just ship out a new speaker ?

The current speaker may be fine, if you identify the correct pins (they're labelled on the board) just make sure it's on the right pins. But yes, if it has failed, then they could just send a replacement next day. Or you can pick them up on Amazon for a couple of quid.

Ooooo, blimey, that is by no means a standard pre-built, that's quite a beefy juicy little number! How much did you pay out of interest? I'm betting it was a good deal.

There's nothing wrong with that PSU, I can say with almost complete certainty that's not the cause, that's one of the best PSU grades you can buy.

I would suspect the USB port then, or motherboard as a bigger issue (worst case scenario).

Yes, been really happy with it, apart from what happened in the last 24hours !

I checked the pins in the mobo manual and it does look like the speaker is installed correctly. I'll see if i can find something suitable on Amazon

Just a word of caution, for me, I wouldn't want anything under a 280mm radiator on that CPU, and even then it would be a premium cooler with a far more powerful pump that could circulate coolant more effectively.

If I were you, I'd set an audible alarm for temps on the CPU, you can do this in the BIOS, or something like FanControl I believe can do it too

I would set a warning at 93c with an automatic shutdown at 95c.

I should preface this by saying 95c won't damage the CPU, it's designed to thermal throttle at that temperature, so will reduce frequency to keep temps at 95.

BUT, that cooler will be running far too hard at those temps and it's not really got the chops to keep it from thermal throttling when under full load.

My suspicion is that the cooler will fail sooner rather than later, and I'd want alarms to tell me when it was nearing those temps so I knew what kind of stress it was under.

But with a suitable cooler, that CPU should never be reaching over 85c. If you did find it was problematic, I'd say a minimum of a 280mm but preferably a 360mm radiator either on the top or the front (both support up to 360, roof is preferable). Premium options are corsairs, but there are alternatives like Arctic Liquid Freezer 2 or Lian Li Galahad 2

I installed fan control, went through the set up wizard but not sure where I can set any warning :

I installed Core Temp and its currently showing:

I also enabled this in core temp

just to confirm we are on the same page, are you saying this part that I have installed:

PCS FrostFlow 240 Series RGB High Performance Liquid Cooler (AMD)

is too weak for the CPU and you advise I replace it with something with 360mm radiator ? would that be a straight swap or would I need anything extra to make it work ?

thanks!

sorry do dig this up but would you recommend this:

As a good upgrade for my CPU cooling and would it fit my case and be fairly OK'sih to install (complexity wise).

Thanks
Having a look at the case specs here and the Corsair site for the cooler specs that cooler should fit either in the roof or the front of that case, as for fitting it you'll find plenty of you tube videos to walk you through it

It also comes preapplied with paste, so you don't have to worry about applying your own, only cleaning the CPU with the current residue.

It comes with a manual on fitting it, it's very easy, hell of a lot easier than fitting an air cooler.
