Pre-Configured Video Editing PC

Hi folks

I need advice please and have no clue about computer parts and builds. I need a new PC for video editing (hobby and Youtube so not professional,) and I have a lot of footage shot in 4k. My current system was never designed for such projects and is several years old. Videos take ages to export, moving through the timelines is jittery at best, and the fan sounds like it's going into meltdown!

I need a new system urgently and since I have no clue, was looking at pre-built ones. The specs below are for the Studio Supreme and the only customisation I have made is that I've added a wireless network card, which I'm guessing means I can connect to my wifi? Please can you tell me if this is a powerful enough set-up for video editing and handling 4k video files?

Many thanks!

Hiya

What's your maximum budget? The above is more designed for gaming, it's not suitable for editing workloads

Thanks for your reply, @SpyderTracks. That particular spec was in the video editing section on the PC Specialist site and was listed for £1639 including VAT. I could probably stretch to £1,900 or £2k at an absolute limit.

The X3D CPU's have a lower frequency but really high cache, this is a detriment to multicore workloads like editing that benefit from more cores and don't get any benefit from higher cache at all.

I would hold off until the 15th when AMD will have released their new 9000 series CPUs which are set to be quite an improvement, and even if you did opt for an X3D variant (which aren't included in the initial launch) then the prices of the existing 7000 series will likely reduce, probably fairly significantly.

This one would work better as a video editing rig and is within your £2000 absolute max.

More cores 16 rather than just 8, 3D cache not needed as already discussed. 3D cache limits thermal headroom as it physically sits on top of the CPU within the package.

AM5 socket for future upgradeability. AM4 is end of life.

Dual Channel fast RAM 2x16 at 5600MHz rather than 1x32 at 3200MHz

If you were gaming I might recommend a higher graphics card but for video editing and rendering you'll probably benefit from the higher amount of vRAM on the 16GB NVidea RTX 4060ti

Run Windows off the first SSD - your video editing system off the second and only use the HDD for storage as it's really slow compared to an SSD. If you have the budget, go for a larger 2nd SSD depending on the size of work files you might be working with.

As for waiting for the 9950X - that's an option as they are rumoured to be no more expensive (and maybe slightly cheaper) than the current 7950X and then you'll have the option of sticking with a (reduced price?) 7950X or go for the performance increase of the 9950X.

Similar to the above but with some tweaks I would strongly advise.

Faster RAM, larger but slightly slower secondary drive, reduced third drive to try to get to budget (I would be more inclined to look at cloud storage or an external storage solution for long term, far better PSU, better cooler to keep the 7950X charging on, removed virus and added Silver warranty.

It's actually worth considering the 7700, or even waiting to see what the 9700X is going to perform like in comparison. I'm not certain that you would get a huge boost from the 7950X in video editing workloads. I have the 7800X3D and it does a very good job for my level of encoding. Even the 7900 would save you £100 without a crazy drop in performance for me (7700 almost £200 less).
