PSA, be careful of new free game "Once Human"

It looks really good, and all for free!

BUT, be warned, there's more to this and I wouldn't be surprised if it gets banned on Steam

Check out this video from 03:04

Not only all that though, lots of reports on steam of it installing unknown apps and forcing them to start at startup, and I trust gamers, they tend to be quite familiar with these things

They still haven't said why they need to gather all that data in the first place.

For some clarity, this is the TLDR:

"Personal Information we receive from you". This includes "name and contact details", "such as first and last name, title, prefix, email address, telephone number, (instant) messaging account, postal address, date of birth, age, gender, country/region, and government-issued ID, such as passport information, as required by applicable laws for age verification and correction of personal information."
AND
"location information... such as IP geolocation information, cell-ID, and Wi-Fi connection location", by means of third-party services and platforms, who will of course have their own data collection policies."
There is also that they will take race identification, apparently gathered by scraping various account avatars!
And for instance under Legal Basis for Aggregating and/or anonymizing Personal Information they state the following:
"Legitimate interests, such as to generate other data for our use, which we may use and disclose for any purpose, as it no longer identifies you or any other individual."
Sounds PROPER dodgy!!!
The whole document is here, I sincerely suggest acquainting yourself with it before installing anything

I won't be either.

Judging by the premise though I'm gutted, because it seems to include building survivor stuff like "The Forest" along with MMO stuff, along with JRPG along with Action Horror.... how much of that is actually true though I don't know.

i will be keeping an eye on it, if it becomes very popular more scrutiny will be on the game

Is the game industry not regulated?? Aren't titles put through stages of scrutiny to check these things before it goes to release?

Unfortunately not, as with any software, it's down to the community to highlight issues once it's released.

There are exceptions with things like Medical software and a lot (but not all) financial software.

The area this is ironically most scrutinised is open-source software as that is peer-reviewed and scanned for malware / nefarious code (assuming it's on a well known repository like GitHub). This is why a lot of privacy minded individuals stick to Linux and open source packages.
