hi all

sorry to resurrect this thread, but I’m finally ready to hit the “purchase” button….

is there anything I should change since this was kindly configured in April?
All the prices and some parts will have changed since then, it would be worth revisiting the budget and specs?

I need to add Windows and office too, other than that would you change anything?

I personally would want a different cooler for the 5900x also the P2200 is quite close to the P1000 in price but it's significantly more powerful card. I guess it comes down to uses though and whether or not you think the P1000 is more than enough for you. This is where I would be aiming but there are areas we can shave off £ here if we need to stick to tighter budget

Ok I ordered the system above a couple of weeks ago

I am now looking for some monitors for the following type of work;

1. PCB design where I need to look at datasheets, reference designs and the PCB CAD design software simultaneously

2. Solidworks 3D CAD design

3. C/C++/Verilog FPGA coding and compiling

do you guys have any suggestions?

Monitors for this sort of work depends on budget really, I generally go with two 24" 1080p screens here in the office but I know personally I would want a 32" 1440p/4K screen for the 3D CAD work. That's just me though, it all really depends on budget and what you want?

We'll that's a decent budget if I was you I'd be looking for a 32" 1440p flat panel monitor for the bulk of the CAD work. You can usually pick something like this up around £300 and then I'd be looking for a 24" 1080p to keep an eye on spreadsheets or CAD libraries, you could even go with two 24" monitors and a 32" monitor in that budget if you wanted to get a little wild with it similar to my own build (see below)

Hi there
I would like to spend no more than £700 total

im truly open to suggestions
I would definitely be looking at 4k, you can snap 4 x 1080p windows in each corner crazy easy. Most professional monitors also support multiple input for picture in picture as well, should you have multiple desktops / laptops.

This is slightly over budget, but listing it as it's a very good option:

Yeah 4k for me, all day long. I would probably go for a different route with cheaper panels for your uses. The landscape is what you are really looking for for the work, you could use a cheaper 1080p panel for better colour production.

One of these:

Two of these:

Would be my choice.

Thank you for your advice

I like the idea of 2x 24in and 1x 32in

forgive my ignorance - what do you mean by “snap”?

These look great

could I go for 3x the 32in monitors?

or not?

It's when you drag a window to one of the corners of your screen and it jumps to the nearest corner and automatically resizes to 1/4 of the screen size.

You could, but keep in mind that the 1080p panels are IPS and will give better colour reproduction and visual brightness. The 4k panel is all about the space, the 1080p panels are more for the clarity and to give functional use.

Honestly mate when looking at Solidsworks, CADworx or AutoCAD quality of the picture really doesn't matter. Most of it is low poly rendering anyways space is more premium especially if you are working on larger models.

As long as the monitor isn't black and white it'll usually do the job for that kind of work
