RAM Question

Hello,

I've been looking into upgrading the RAM in my PC (bought from here) which is currently the "8GB KINGSTON DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (1 x 8GB)" as stated in the order details, which shows the core details of the stick, however ive been unable to find any other details about the chip, i was hoping someone knew some information about the RAM stick ? because at the moment all searching with that wording brings up is about the kingston hyperX which im presuming i havent got.

many thanks

Try logging onto your PCS account and clicking on upgrade. If you go through there, it should give you the correct memory module to upgrade with.

It does give me some options, but a motherboard shouldnt limit you to just one brand of RAM, and i was hoping to have a look around to see if there are any better deals (probably not but you never know) but i simply cant find any information about what ive got at the moment to make a informed decision.

Goes without saying that if you ship around for a better deal you should make sure the RAM has the same timings as well as the same frequency. :)

Ive seen timings on some other sites selling RAM But no mention of it on the PCS upgrade store, does that mean that i should either buy a single matching/suggested stick from PCS or a pair of sticks with the same timings from elsewhere to ensure compatability?

Rather than just another 1600 Mhz 8Gb DDR3 stick?

Yes, or at least that's certainly the safest and easiest way to do it. Equally you can look up the timings of your RAM in the BIOS or by using something like CPU-Z, or look at the RAM stick that's in your PC and read the label I assume it has that will give model information.

That said, unless the PCS upgrade page is really expensive, you might be spending a lot of time comparison shopping for something that will save a few quid at most.
