Recoil 17” Corsair 5600 mHz RAM Instability

Dear all

I have recently ordered the laptop spec below. It is currently in build, and I have just received the following message from PCS:

“Unfortunately, we have encountered a RAM stability problem when the RAM is running at speeds above 4800MHz. We have tested several RAM modules and the solution is to change the RAM to 4800MHz. We therefore recommend that you change your order and select the 4800MHz variant.”

I have to admit to being slightly surprised by this.

The Corsair 5600MHz DDR5 is listed as being an option for the 17” Recoil laptop. And it seems that PCS have done the initial build on the basis that it would work.

Am I the first person ever to order this combination?

I’d really like some information available on what motherboard/chipset goes in the 17” Recoil. Is it spec’d to run this RAM? If so, I’ll admit to being somewhat concerned that it does not, and that the solution, in essence, is to hobble the design. I’d like to know if folks think there is any prospect of an update, or any other suggestion that might resolve this issue.

I’m obviously aiming for a performance laptop with this order. I’m wondering if I should maybe scrap it, and start again with a different chassis/motherboard?

All comments/wisdom gratefully received.

Ok,

No one knows, but I got the answer from PCS.

So in case anyone follows in my footsteps, here it is:

The RAM is getting too much voltage sent to it, this is causing overheating. Its not a ventilation / standard overheating issue with the chassis itself.

It’s a BIOS configuration issue with the Recoil 17”motherboard that PCS are working with the manufacturer to resolve. There is currently no timescale for this fix.

Hope that helps somebody.

Sorry, missed the initial post, always worth bumping if you don't get a response.

I find that very strange because lots of people have been on the forums with this chassic running 5600MHz RAM absolutely fine.

I suspect that this is down to a bad CPU that's unable to maintain overclocked memory fabric.

We've not had any reports from people running 5600Mhz on that chassis of instability.
