Is it flashing like a 1 second on off, or is it persistently going on and off at very high rates?

That's the hard drive activity light and it shows the activity on the HDD, so it should be on and off as the activity spins.

If it's a rythmic on then off, then that suggests something else.

Actually it was constantly on earlier and now its pretty much always off :D

Yeah, that’s pretty normal. If you’re booting up or running a game or something it will pretty much just be a solid light, but when it’s idling on the desktop, activity will be pretty minimal.

It’s actually quite a handy indicator along with disk monitor in task manager to see if there’s a process that’s hogging the disk and causing slowdowns.

But yeah, it should be on and off at varying frequencies most of the time.
