I obviously want a fast PC , but I want it as quiet as a reasonable budget allows.
I want to play 3D nvidia games and I am thinking of i7 processor and 2 X GTX 460 in SLI.
How does the below sound... any suggestions please ?

If quiet is your priority, for an extra £20 this is a better bet:

Processor Cooling
TITAN FENRIR EVO EXTREME HEATPIPE CPU COOLER (£39)

...It's 15 dbA instead of 22. It won't wake up mum and dad.

Great spec, but an 850W PSU is a bit on an overkill. Also,as Altissimus suggested go for the best CPU cooler for your budget, as this will help make the computer as quiet as possible.

Yes, you could also go for a GTX 470 instead, it would beast all games for a ages still (on max) and then you can buy a second GTX 470. 2x GTX 470 > 2x GTX 460. I always say: never SLI immediately on purchase of a new comp. Go for the best single GPU you can afford especially as many applications dont use SLI (only games and even then not many support it).

thanks for ideas

Ok I will go for the better pipe.

On the SLI, I want to run 3D games (nvidia glasses) and watch £D movies via Blu ray and other sources if I could find them. Is SLI good or bad idea for this ?

I think Quiet is more important than super fast, I would hate it if it sounds like a hair dryer going !!

If I did have two vid cards in SLI what size and type of PSU is best (and QUIET).
I assume the case is oK as I think bigger fans are quieter than small ones.

Thanks

3D games yes, although you could do it with one GTX 470 easily. If you want a tri monitor setup then you need atleast 2 GPUs.

BD no, SLI makes no diff, only one gpu will render.
