Strange device showing on network

Hi

I accidentally clicked the network tab on file explorer and noticed that there was a device named Suez which has no IP address and only a MAC address. The device was made by Amazon and after looking online appears to be commonly associative with a kindle or something. The only Amazon device I have is an echo which is never switched on. I disabled windows connect now and all remote connection ect as suggested on those forums But it’s still appearing. Any ideas why this would be? Has my network been compromised?

My specs are below.

Can you take a screenshot?
I’m not able to at the minute but it’s showing under the network manager tab as well as my PC and my router. It’s name is Suez and under properties it says manufacturer Amazon and the model is KFSUWI. It doesn’t have an IP address as it says unavailable either just a MAC address. I read a few forums online which said users have experienced similar but never really seen anywhere what the reason was for it appearing. If it doesn’t have an IP address is it possibly just a neighbours device trying to connect?

Without seeing it can’t really say.

Windows network management doesn't show you what's on the network, only what's on the PC.

It's unlikely something on the network as such, more likely a device that's been paired under bluetooth.

But again, without seeing, it's like picking a needle out of a haystack.

That's just showing you configured to use network resources from the PC.

It's not what's on your network.

So anything that's set up with network attributes will show in there.

It now doesn’t seem to be appear after a restart of my device using the fixes in the article I sent the link in to. Does that mean it could have just been a neighbours device after disabling windows connect now that it isn’t appearing?

It's not possible for anyone to connect to your computer without you allowing it. To set up pairing you have to first enable bluetooth on your computer and then they have to enter a pairing code that is displayed on your screen.

Seriously, you're making problems for yourself, there's nothing out of the ordinary here.

You're misunderstanding what that tab shows. It's not showing what's on your network.

I assume he means these...I've not found a recent answer...there was a long, since-locked discussion on some windows forums about the exact issue back in 2017 but I didn't see a definitive cause, much less an answer or solution. I didn't find anything newer.

The thread in '17, people seemed to believe it was a Windows update issue or bug, but it's obviously still happening, as I screenshotted this just this morning.
I don't always see it pop up as a computer in the explorer window, and sometimes it's only for a very brief time, like 10-20 seconds before it vanishes again.

The only references to actual devices that would use that description would be the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablets, which I *DO* have in the household, but it isn't powered on when it appears on my PC Windows Explorer, and it *doesn't* appear there as a network device when it IS powered on and accessing the WiFi.

Edit: @ubuysa - I did block it by MAC addy through my router the first time it appeared, but then it simply changed MAC address and I saw it again later 👍

2nd edit: (to add OS version)
Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 20H2
OS build 19042.964
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.2020.0

Anything that I didn't recognise and which dynamically changed it's MAC address would ring alarm bells with me. 🆘

I'd probably approach things the other way then and allow all the MAC addresses I knew to be good and block all the others....

That's how I felt as well.

I whitelisted my known household devices in my router, but eventually, it did pop up in my Windows Explorer once again (PC/device named 'suez'). I've been frustrated and a bit confused trying to pin it down, or find any solid info or answers about it.

I don't *believe* anyone is "hacking my network", but I also can't 100% eliminate the possibility. /shrug

I don't think it's going to be malicious either but I'd not be happy leaving it. I'd at least want to know what it is.
