Dispatch is the worst stage mate. You'll see that it will leave the PCS office around 3pm and then sit in the DHL tracking for a while. It will go to the Leeds Depot and sit there for a while, then travel a bit around the country ;) Took the DHL guy 7 hours from time of dispatch from Reading to get to maidenehad (15 miles down the road) - clearly he did not realise the importance of the delivery ;)

It arrived this morning :winkiss:

I have to report however that not all was well :(. The front of the case had come off and a couple of the inserts were lying loose. However i gave the front a good check and it went back on with no problems at all.

Also, the fan on the side of the case is not working, the one on the top is spinning like a dervish but the one on the side's about as active as the fat kid with asthma so any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Pics to follow once i get my room in order :smartass:

Sorry to hear it sounds like it took a bump, this can happen in transit.

If all is well then good stuff, if not give us a call and it will be sorted.

The side fan is usually unplugged for transit, check this if you can it most likely just need plugging in. Did the machine come with the foam insert inside?

That choice is of course yours, i can see that you are only on day 7 of an estimated 11-13 day lead time.

More information on the build process can be found all over this forum but specifically here:

I've followed the cable's from the side fan and it does look as if it is unplugged, however there is no foam insert.

Furious, sorry to hear about that mate. Your side fan has probably just been disconnected for transport and so they could get their packing foam in the case. Check the lead from the fan and see if its connected to anything. Likelyhood is it just needs plugging into any spare molex power connector.

Ben, unfortunately thats the trouble with fast track orders, people pay the premium price for it and PCS have to prioritise those orders first as people have paid for that extra service. If you wanted it quicker you should have paid for the fast track really. When did you order? Post-Production is the longest stage of the process as has been mentioned a number of times on the forum. You just have to have a bit of patience, you are getting a top quality custom built machine after all.

As for the damage on arrival, this really isn't PCS' fault, they package everything as best they possibly can, they have absolutely no control over the courier company and how they handle the boxes! They have been known to drop them and throw them around and they can also get damaged but a rough ride in the van to you. I was fortunate, my rig had no damage but the packaging was damaged so I could see it had taken quite a knock. Fortunately because PCS try the best they can to protect the PCs it survived and I've had no problems.

You can of course always look elsewhere, thats up to you, but I've no idea where you'd get such a competitive price and such fantastic customer service from. Good luck with that. Especially from any high street store! If your PC does happen to arrive damage, and fingers crossed it won't, you can rest assured that PCS will do everything they can to rectify it for you.

I have to say that i can't fault the PCS packaging for the damage. The machine was packed tighter than Linford Christie in spandex. There was a little bit of superficial damage to the top of the outer box but i assume that happened in transit.

Silly question but is it really necessary to plug the side fan in at the moment? I'm not really a technical bod and don't want to start poking about at all the innards...i can't even see where i can get into this case :/

Depends on the temperature your components are running at. Personally I'd plug it in.
It shouldn't be too difficult. Just have a hunt for a free connector that looks like this:

Molex_female_connector.jpg

and plug the fan into that :) there should be plenty of free connectors hidden in the empty drive bays

yeah ppl who pay premium get priority i get it but so some of use we have familys and bills to play and i had to get a loan just to pay for the machine coz my old pc blew up. i have many bills ad a 3 week old baby so £30-£60 may not be much to some but i gotta save as much as possible. i just feel that proiritys should be first come first served like back in the day but hey in all walks of life these day money talks lol i will wait til the 11-13 days are up then cancel if i hasnt moved into building procces as i pay not only for the machine but for the service to be delivered in the estimated time. but it is harsh of me to critize as i have only been waiting 7 of 13 working days and wronly assumed saterdays counted as a build day which there not i noticed. but a plausable situation could arise is my order gets delayed 2-7 weeks coz of missing components coz of fast track and perhaps im old fashioned but thats a bit unfair in my book but hey perhaps i shoulda just payed the extra but money is tight lol

You've just hit on exactly the point there "Estimated time" key word being estimated. There are so many factors that can cause delays to anyones order.

To be honest mate, I wasn't asking for a sob story, we've all got bills to pay, I was just trying to offer an explanation and hopefully clear up some of your doubts. Just try and be a bit patient. If you wanted a new PC that quick, you could have gone and picked one up the same day at any electrical retailer.

it wasnt ment to be a sob story just a fact that not every1 is loaded or has the financial flexibily to fast track just to skip the queue. my point being in a store its first come first served no matter how much money u have extra to spend. if u place an order at a shop first u come first ahead of others.

but as usual no1 can understand my point of view and that in the end everyone sees that if u have more oney than some1 else u get priority orders coz u can afford the extra meaning ur customer is more valued and more importasnt but im jsut gonna shut up now. wait til the 14th working day if no progress i can easily find other site or stores offering the same value im sure. but wot really ****** me of was being told last week my order would be built very very soon only to find out it seems my order will be pushed back and back every day ppl order fast tracks, how can u not see that can be frustrating when your pc less and have to borrow a laptop from family just to access the internet

Yes I can see how that would be frustrating, but you've just got to be patient. Its still well within the estimated time given so just wait and see.
I didn't pay for fast track, and I bought the PC on finance, it still arrived within the time given.
If the service is offered for extra then PCS have to honour it when people pay for it.

yeah they have to honour it but there should perhaps be limits to it, for example if u order fast track after some1 else who hasn't. for exmaple person 1 orders a pc without fast track on april 4, 3 ppl order fast track they get priority but person 2 orders fast track day or to after person one those that order first get theres built first as there order was placed first otherwise all some1 could get really unlucky and have there normal stanterd order delayed 2 weeks coz of influx in fast tracks then get delayed a few more weeks coz of missing components highly unlikely i know but not impossible. yes i have to be patient i jsut dont like being mis lead is all

This has all got a bit heated in here.

I am however failing to see what is misleading about an order half way through an estimated 11-13 lead time.

So the facts are:

  • Its not over the estimated lead time
  • There are no stock issues with the machine and no delays
  • Its at the same point as every other machine that was ordered on the same date

Fast track orders do jump the queue but only represent a very small % of orders. Most people decide to wait it out.

Currently we are busy, very busy for the time of year and a lot of overtime etc is being put in to ensure that lead times are kept within reason.

Right, have got the side fan working. Those bloody connectors arent the greatest are they? Sodding pins kept slipping but all seems well at the moment :D
