Needing a new Desktop for University and work but thought about spending a bit extra to try PC gaming. How comfortable would something like this be with new games? Any advice appreciated.

It's not very well optimised, I think it could be better rounded for similar money.

What monitor are you pairing it with for the gaming? Have you already purchased? What software are you using for Uni work etc? What is your maximum budget?

I haven't bought a monitor that was next. Just now for uni it's just Word and compendium but in a couple of years will be using CAD programmes.I was hoping to stay under £1,300. Any suggestions?

This is just over £1300. If you budget around £200 for a monitor you can get a high end 1080p with Freesync..... such as..



The below system has the future in mind so it should last a NUMBER of years with only a GPU upgrade. Everything is in place for a high end system. It'll smash your requirements right now.

If you wanted to spend a little extra and be 100% sure of the future, you could upgrade to the H115i RGB Platinum, which would cool any CPU chip you upgraded to in the future. This is not required for this chip, the cooler I have selected is fine. It'll be a little nosier as the H115i Platinum is nearly silent and the lights are controlled via the same software as the case (less hassle). It's just a luxury spend hence why I mention it.

Hmm, that would be reaching into 1440p territory. With £1700 you could get 1440p gaming including the monitor but you would need to compromise on the future upgradability a little bit.

This would be a 1440p gaming system. It's not as CPU powerful but it's no slouch. It would certainly be good enough for CAD work. The motherboard makes way for the 2070 GPU which is a 1440p gaming card. You could happily upgrade to around the 3800X, or equivalent future options, with this motherboard down the line.... but anything past that really needs the X570 in place.

Paired with something like this would see a great gaming system....

1440p monitors are getting a bit thin on the ground with everyone snapping them up during lockdown. The ideal monitor would probably be 27" for 1440p. The main things to look for are:

Last but not least. This is the last option that I wanted to put forward. I kept this to last as I think it's probably the best option. It's not AS good for gaming as the 2070 Super but it's a foot firmly in the door of 1440p gaming. You could purchase a 75Hz 1440p monitor and it would pair very well with this card, however... I would still probably recommend the same monitor as above due to future thinking. This has everything in place for the future as per the first build, but has the 2060 Super in place.

Unfortunately, this will take you over budget. But it's definitely worth considering..
