Touch pad - honesty please !

Hi folks, I have been researching laptops and ended up here and the specs seem great for the price.

I was on the point of having decided on a Cosmos II but then dropped on an image of one being sold on eBay an noticed the touchpad had suffered from wear and the main areas of use could quite clearly be seen. That reminded me of a post elsewhere on this forum where someone was complaining of premature wear to the surface of the touchpad and the coating/paint had come off.

Just wondering if this is something I need to factor in and if anyone else has had problems with the coatings wearing ?

I am on about my 15th laptop and never had this problem you see, so wondered if I should be concerned.

Ta very much, and Happy New Year !

I can't comment on the Cosmos II but here is a picture of my 1 year old Optimus V 17.3". To be honest it doesn't bother me as it doesn't affect functionality but I suppose it is something you should factor in.

Thanks for the pic and the info. I have since read about using 'skins' or protectors on touchpads without losing usability so I think I will go down that route.

Thanks again.

A different angle on this question, as the photo and comments so far alarm me:

I have had a few (branded, premium) laptops, each of which has lasted for many years. By the end of the laptop's life, the touchpads were still in excellent condition. I have never experienced the sort of wear pictured and being discussed here.

Is there something inferior about the touchpads fitted to PCS (ie Clevo etc) laptops, especially compared to premium branded laptops?

Or I know some hand creams and other cosmetic products can react with plastic/rubber/latex/silicone materials and coatings frequently used on consumer products, and destroy such coatings. Could that be what is happening with these touchpads?

To be honest I don't think the touchpads are inferior. I think the whole chassis is sprayed with the same paint so it's actually the paint coating which wears. I could be wrong but that's what it looks like on my laptop as the touchpad is the same colour and has the same finish as the rest of the chassis.

Just to add, I don't use any hand creams or other hand related cosmetic products.
