So I've had the below spec for about 4-5 years but after Oblivion looks fairly potato it's time to upgrade - the only issue being I have zero idea what I'm doing. Open to any suggestions on whether my current rig is worth upgrading and how, or whether to start again from scratch. Thanks so much in advance!

What is your maximum budget for upgrades? Be warned that your old ATX 2.4 PSU will significantly limit your capabilities.

I can be fairly flexible - just conscious at a certain point I may be better doing the whole hog and buying a whole new rig (as you say, I'm conscious I may plateau somewhere due to existing parts). Would be curious to know where you think some noticeable improvements could be made - thanks!

In theory, I'd say the Case, CPU, GPU, SSDs, and PSU to be subpar components for a proper gaming system.

Frankly speaking, I would not invest money in upgrading an AM4 platform because the compatible components would be already obsolete by 2025 (i.e., CPU limited to the 5000 series and some pretty low-end GPU due to insufficient power supply), and I do not believe the cost would be justified.

In my previous post, I forgot to ask what monitor you were using, which is critical for identifying the appropriate GPU.

so I've been thinking on it more overnight and think I'll just bite the bullet and buy a new rig, have pulled the spec below together with the help of a few online resources which I'm very happy with. I definitely need a new monitor though - if there's anything you could suggest in the £300-400 range I'd be super grateful. Thanks again, really appreciate your responses!

Today is my travel day to Bergen to board the vessel, and I'll not be able to check the forum on a regular basis. I'm sure someone else will recommend the best build for your needs, but if not, I'll attempt to work something out tonight once I get to the hotel. :)

Hi @tp9090

Sorry for the delay; I had quite a difficult time on the new vessel. I'm trying to understand where I am

Anyway, here's what I'd choose for your new 1440p gaming PC.
Please let me know whether it is inside your maximum budget because I didn't understand which it is. :)

Regarding the monitor, I believe the AORUS FO27Q2 is a pretty good choice. (y)

N.B. Transferring your current OS licence to the new PC could save you approximately £110.

Above build is top notch. I don't think you'll be quite ready for the difference.

The only eyebrow raise I have is on the PSU. It would only be a £60 saving but I don't think there's a need for anything over the 1000w option here.

Agree, a 1000W would be more than enough; I picked the 1200W only to allow for basically unlimited future upgrades and because the price difference is negligible on such a build, but if the OP wants to save some money, he can easily go with the 1000W. :) (y)
