Upgrading m.2

I've got a single m.2 on my pc which is the C: drive. It's 256Gb and I want to upgrade it to 2Tb and move the Win 11 OS over. I've only got the one slot , which rules out cloning the old drive directly across. So, it looks like I'll have use an external drive to move the OS, before I swap the m.2s. There's loads of different methods suggested on line, but I was wondering if anyone here has actually done it and what hard/software they used. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

I’m not sure if I understand correctly, but why don’t you make a bootable USB using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool and then carry out a simple clean install? I believe it would be a much easier and quicker way.

Thanks, that's the simplest advice I've had so far. I'll give it a go.
