I'm thinking about upgrading my PC it's currently 4 years old, not sure if its due an upgrade or not as I have no clue about parts etc. I play game like warzone/tarkov etc and could do with more FPS. Don't really have a budget along as its not a stupid amount.

Any help and opinions would be appreciated thanks.

What areas do you feel are getting 'slow'? Have the FPS been getting lower, or do you just want more?

Yes, the GPU is now 3 generations old, and would probably be out-performed (especially with the latest FSR/DLSS techs) by a lower tier GPU (broadly equivalent to a 16GB 9060XT or 16GB 5060 - neither of which I'd recommend).

If it was just for gaming, we'd probable say that the 5900X was the wrong CPU in the first place, as it doesn't have any X3D v-cache for gaming (could lose 30% FPS at 1080p just with the CPU). At higher resolutions the CPU is not as important, so what resolution are you playing at, and what monitor (make & model, or resolution & refresh rate) are you using. Unfortunately the best X3D CPU of that generation (the 5800X3D) is no longer available, and your platform does not allow for any of the more recent X3D CPUs.

My other concern would be which drive you're playing games from, and whether your OS and games are on the same drive, as modern games like to be on a fast games-only drive, so that they don't have to share resources with any background system tasks.

I'd say abit of both as new games come out doesn't seem to be as high and would like more.

My monitor is a AOC amd freesync 240hz 1080 0.5.

I have no clue about games OS being on same drive, my games are on ssd though I'd have to try look into that.

What would you recommend replacing? Thanks for the help you certainly know what your talking about! All a different language to me!

Definitely check that the OS and games are on separate SSDs (the launchers are fine on the OS drive, along with all your apps, just point the launchers to install on the second/bigger drive). Is the larger Samsung your primary/OS drive or your games drive?

At 1080p the CPU is as important as the GPU, so a x3D CPU would probably have been a good choice...but the only one of that generation available now is the 5700X3D which would be faster than the 5900X and only about 5% slower than the 5800X3D.

Some Tarkov comparisons below (not exactly 5900X vs 5700X, but close enough to compare/extrapolate)...

In games most fast-paced games like Fortnite, CS2, FH5, Tarkov, etc the 5700X3D could offer 15-25% more FPS at 1080p.

You can see how much PCS are offering the CPU upgrade for by going into your account and selecting 'upgrade'...but this is the current retail price of that CPU:

Personally, I would upgrade the GPU and OS drive (to replace the PCS-branded one); the CPU might not be worth it in my opinion: as @TonyCarter correctly said, you'd certainly get a performance bump at 1080p, but I'd give priority to GPU and a decent OS drive first and then CPU (which is due for obsolescence anyway).

Obviously, if you don't mind spending £200 extra, it will be better, but that is all up to you and your budget. ;)

You can transfer the GPU and drive to a new system, but not the CPU.

N.B. This is just for reference

A 9070XT (overkill for 1080p) will gives you an average boost of 35-40% compare to your 6800XT.

Appreciate all the help guys! What would you recommend if I was going to upgrade to 1440? Should I also add more ram (pretty sure I got told 2x rams were better and that 4x didn't work well with another component in my PC)

It’s kind of impossible to give any advice without knowing the budget ceiling?
