Can anyone recommend a reliable USB stick,I'm getting fed up with them giving me the old "the disk is write protected" message.I had to bin another one last night,a maxell 16GB,couldn't format it even with third party software and no registry fix available,(there is no switch on it),so it's obviously useless and hardly been used.
Any info on the most reliable make to get much appreciated. :)

I have a Kingston Data Traveler 4GB & a Sandisk Cruzer Blade 16GB which i use as a backup for photos, transporting work files, films etc and both have been faultless. I reckon I've had the former for about 2 years....the more i think about it, probably about 4...the latter is closer to 2...

I don't use the security software that generally comes on the USB stick. If you do, then that (I think) is the problem.

I ordered a 128GB Corsair flash USB drive, it was said to be refurbished and (Maybe over-priced but I'm not too knowledgeable on fair prices for a Flash/refurbished in general) was £74.99. I've only used it the once to back up my iTunes purchases as I haven't had the chance to back my other things up, but I didn't run in to any problems. 3.0 compatible aswell as 2.0, not sure what the average speeds are with it being refurbished, though.

On the site I ordered from I think they started at 8GB. Only thing though, after ordering I read reviews for the site and the majority were negative, saying late arrivals, or faulty goods needing to be returned, where they allow you to print off a freepost thing and when they receive it they just tell you that it hadn't been received, the fine print says that recorded mail is required to guarantee these kinds of things don't happen. Also, they are dispatched from a Warehouse in Switzerland, which seemed to Pee a number of customers off that thought they were buying from a UK base.

But that said, I ordered Monday last week and the USB drive was delivered Tuesday just gone.


It's a Voyager GT, forgot to add that when I first posted. ;)

I like sted, have a corsair USB stick. only 8gig though... (although, i do like the backup idea)

no complaints :)

Oh no! I use USB sticks for small back ups and now you've got me worried....do I need a back up of my back up!?

I use a small Kingston Data Traveler & a Sandisk also and (touch wood) no problems so far. I only back up every few months though (note to self: back up more often!)

When you say "security software", do you mean just the password protection? If so, I've had no problems with that....apart from forgetting the password of course!

Well,personally I wouldn't trust a USB stick for really important data I never want to lose.I use other hard drives and also an external hard drive,I also have it backed up on other computers,but maybe I'm a bit paranoid. :)

You can get a 32gb USB 3.0 Data Traveller off eBay at the moment for £14.99. Just bought one myself.

Been adding some stuff to mine and got to my largest folder that I wanted to be backed up which is saved on a Core Ext. HDD. The HDD is really slow in comparison and I foolishly tried to transfer directly from the Ext HDD to the USB flash and it said estimated 20 hours for a 19GB folder and continued to rise in the estimation. :D

So I'm transferring to the Desktop which is estimated about an hour but seems to be dropping to lower estimate lengths by considerable amounts, then on to the USB. Future self reference: Don't transfer between two external devices via the PC. :wacko:
