Vortex II

I have a question on the 15.6" Vortex II.

Does the main or second HDD bay support SATA 3 (6GB/s), or is SATA 2 (3GB/s)?

If it's SATA 3 (6GB/s) - what make/model is the SATA controller? Reason for asking is that I have Vertex 3 SSD which requires SATA 3 (for the best speeds).

I'm hoping it supports SATA 3 and at the same time hoping it's not the silly Marvell controllers some Laptops use :)

Cheers!

Welcome to our forums :)

Both the HDD bays support SATA 6GB/s. I'm not sure if they use Marvell controllers but we do not recommend OCZ Vertex drives as they tend to function intermittently. It's not the SATA controllers that cause the problem, it's the drives. Kingston and Intel work like a treat :)

Thank you! Do you have a link to the motherboard used in the Vortex 2, or the make and model?

Had my OCZ Vertex 3 for around 2 months now and never had a problem so far :p Dodgy as sh!t on the Marvel controller though, random freezes and slow speeds. Intel controllers work a treat.

Unfortunately we don't have the model of the motherboard. Laptops are different to desktops in that you can't choose an ASUS or Gigabyte model for example, they're made for that exact chassis.

I will look up the controllers on the 3rd January and let you know. However, please note that we do not sell or recommend OCZ drives with our notebooks because the drives used to randomnly fail. It may be because the controllers are not Intel, but I will have to check.

We have been able to check the laptop today and I can confirm that the controllers are infact Intel. :)

However, I will again re-iterate that we don't recommend OCZ drives in our laptops due to the high failure rate on some drives.
