Vyper 17.3 Build

Hi all,

looking to buy the Vyper 17.3 but have a few questions. I've had bad luck with bigger known brands in the past such as HP Omen and having backlight bleed and ips glow, when spending ~£2k on a laptop I want the display to be perfect. So with that said is it straight forward to return if not happy with the display? additionally when it is getting built can we get assurances the display will be perfect?

Also I'm torn between the 2070 super or the 2080 super max-q. What power draw will this 2080 maxq be, 90w, 115w etc? My understanding is anything lower then 90w it wont be great at all so im unsure as to get 2070s or 2080s max-q.

Finally anyone that has this laptop what is the keyboard and speakers like and also will this laptop work well with Linux? I do use Win 10 but also linux a lot.

Thanks

PS, this was the spec I had so far:

I would also like to know the wattage of this systems gpu. I did email pcspecialist directly but got a very concerning and unsatisfactory responce. They are unsure of the specs of the components that they use and advised me that the power adapter is an indicator of the wattage of the gpu. Based on that information i looked on there website again and got conflicting results.

The 15.6 Recoil IV has a 2080 Max Q and a 230w power adaptor.

The 17.3 Defiance VII has a 2080 Super max Q but only has a 180w power adaptor(not a 230w)

The 17.3 Vyper has a 2080 Max Q advertised in the spec's but the 2080 super max Q is available as an option and this laptop has a 230w adaptor.

Considering we are able to spec these laptops ourselves and that there are a variety of options avalible i think it is unacceptable not to include the wattage of the gpu's as this affects performance and thus value of the component.

I also had a bad experience with a main brand(asus zephyrus gx701lxs) and as such i will not be purchasing unless i am very satisfied that i know what i am getting.

Please could you confirm which of the systems contain a 2080 super max q( not the older 2080 max q) and what wattage they are as this has am impact on performance.

These are the specs that i am considering.

Just an update.

I was contacted by the enquiry department to tell me that they dont have the information to hand and that if i would like they could contact the RandD department to get the information.

This has put me off of spending my money with pcspecialist as i asked a question expecting to get an answer not to be told that they could get the information if i asked them to get it which i thought would have been obvious by me asking the question in the first place.

Is this how things would have been dealt with if i had a problem with the laptop that i would ask them to fix it and have them tell me that they can fix it if i ask them to. And round and round we go. Shame as the specs were impressive if it was the 90w gpu.

It looks to me as though the PCS customer services person has done you the kindness of replying to your question with a lot of the information you requested. What they can't tell you is the power rating of the GPU - because they don't know. Personally I'd rather people tell me they don't know rather than take a guess. They have offered to contact PCS RandD to try and get an answer for you if it's that important to you. It's unfortunate (but hardly surprising) that a customer services agent, likely working from home, doesn't have their finger on the deep technical details - a detail in fact that I don't recall having been asked for before.

If you decide you don't want to buy from PCS then that's your absolute right, but you can't criticise an employee for a) having the courtesy to reply to you, b) admitting that they don't know the answer to one of your questions, and c) offering to ask the technical people to see whether the information is available. I sure hope nobody ever asks you a question to which you don't have the answer, I doubt you'd handle it any better.

If there is an avenue to which i can get the information that is being requested of me then i would go down that path. If i had to ask whether i should look then i would most likely loose my job. This is a product over £2k in value. If i am not worth a little time to gather information that i asked for then it is not worth my money. If it is the first time that people are asking about the specs of the components going into there products then there are a lot of people willing to waste their money and not doing there research. It is a big deal as the 80w 2080 super max q performs worse than the 2070 super max q so why would i pay more for less but if it is the 90w variant then it performs better and is worth the extra. I dont just blindly throw money at things. Maybe this is why most products are trash these days if people aren't bothered about what they are spending their money on. Oh and telling me that the power supply reflects the gpu power was clearly false information so what was that you were saying about taking a guess. I was not directly criticising the employee but as this is the only point of contact to the company regarding technical enquiries then i would expect that effort would be put into gathering the information otherwise just give me the contact details for the r and d department. Sounds to me like you are a bit to defensive for some reason

I am not seeing the problem? I mean I could see why "I will ask" might be better than "I can ask" but it doesn't seem like a huge issue since your response email would basically be the same.

And if you cared to read the OP's comment then you would fined that i am the second person to ask for this kind of information so looks like a lack of simple research is contagious

When i started looking for a laptop i was looking at the main brands. All of which give the wattage of the gpu. Asus zephyrus gx701lxs is OC to 120w and msi gs66 is at 90w just to mentian a few) i got the zephyrus at just over £3K and had to send it back as it was DOA. I had bad customer service from asus regarding this but the retailer(overclockers uk) were very helpful this i am looking for a replacement and anything that will make me question wether the product or service is good is a put off for me. I would not have minded waiting for the r and d team to get back to them with any information. If you were asking me where i learnt about the 2 variants of the 2080 super max q then hear is a link that might be of some help to you.
Now i could have just told you to look for your self or i could have asked you if u want the link but i instead got the information for you and gave it to you. That wasn't so hard. There are many sights talking about the difference between the 2
