Which will perform better? Laptop v Desktop...

Afternoon all! I currently have two (admittedly, old and underpowered) PC's. A laptop, and a desktop. I'm looking to get back into some PC gaming, probably games such as Apex Legends, Fortnite, PUBG, WoW, RDR2, GTA V, Borderlands 3. But I'm unsure of which PC I should use to get the best performance. My desktop PC is a lot older than my laptop, but I am under the assumption desktop is almost always better... anyway, here are the specs:

Desktop PC:

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K Haswell Refresh Processor 4.0 GHz (No Overclocking)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-GAMING 3 Motherboard - Haswell CPU only
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400MHz DDR3 Memory (2 x 4GB sticks)
GPU: Zotac GeForce GTX 1650 Super Gaming 4gb
SSD: 256GB Samsung 840 EVO Solid State Drive
HD: 1000GB 7200RPM Hard Disk - 6Gbps
PSU: Corsair CX 750W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified PSU
Monitor: 24" Asus VS247HR Widescreen LED Monitor

Laptop:
CPU: Intel Core i7 Six Core 8750H (2.2GHz, 4.1GHz Turbo)
RAM: 16GB Corsair 2666MHz SODIMM DDR4 (2x8gb)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GDDR5 6gb
SSD: SSD: 250GB Seagate Barracuda 120 2.5" SSD (Up to 560MB/sR) | 540MB/sW
SSD M.2: 1TB Samsung 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3500MB/R, 3300MB/W)
Screen: 17.3" 1920/1080p 144hz 72% NTSC LED Widescreen

Any advice/recommendations/suggestions/discussion would be greatly appreciated!

Really tbh you should only get a laptop if you are moving around a lot or dont have the space for a desktop. Laptops arent that upgradeable only ram and storage but desktops everything can as well as that desktops usually run cooler. Up to your needs

Thanks for the response. I don't ever really need to move my PC. But my question is more about which one would perform better, as I currently own both.

Im not sure about the CPU comparison however the laptop has 16gb of ram which is better than the desktops 8gb, the laptop also has a better GPU and a very nice beefy NVMe, unless the laptop has temperature and thermal throttling issues then i imagine the laptop will perform better.

An equivalent desktop will always be more powerful as they have much more power available off the mains, whereas laptops are restricted to the mobile wattage potential which is vastly reduced.

Are these PCSpecialist builds? We can't offer advice on non PCS builds I'm afraid.

You can't compare them as they are 2 completely different systems....on paper, the desktop has the better processor, the laptop better most everything else (more RAM, faster primary drive, better GPU etc).
Not to mention that the laptop will have a minimal and locked-down BIOS, isn't upgradable in any meaningful sense, will overheat in a heartbeat if not kept scrupulously clean, will either perform poorly on battery or use up the battery in a few tens of minutes, has fewer USB ports, fewer audio ports, internal WiFi antennae (and thus less range), and is much more susceptible to damage given its portable nature.

In my book, only ever buy a laptop if portability is the main feature you need.
