Who Else Is Upgrading To Windows 10?

I have upgraded to W10 and have a non-touch device (PC).

I was (weirdly) looking forward to trying out the Start Screen rather than the traditional desktop but when I right click on the ‘taskbar’ and click on ‘properties’ there isn’t any ‘start menu’ tab allowing me to untick the ‘use the start menu instead of the start screen’.

I have been unable to find any clarification on this via Microsoft, does anyone here know whether this feature is supposed to be blocked for non-touch devices?

Thanks

Anyone got AVG2015 free to work as well? I thought it should be working, but it isn't...

I couldn't get Kasperksy to install at first, but that was because there were remnants of it from the 8 version, which the Kasperksy removal tool was able to deal with, and now the new 10 version works fine.
So check you have the latest version of AVG and that if any old bits of it may be blocking the situation.

Anyone know how to get a PS3 controller working in Windows 10?

Same for me as in Windows 8.
Use MotionInJoy to install the driver. Then forget about MIJ and use Better DS3. I had to do this fresh in Windows 10, I think the upgrade had deleted the driver.
I think Better DS3 is great, it lets me do everything I would want and in a clean and efficient interface.

As far as I remember you just need to have the controller connected and select load driver. Press the PS button at the various stages if you haven't. Try taking the lead out the controller and put it back in, that sort of thing. Opening control panel a couple of times and doing the pressing and in and outing seem to shake it into life for me.
In Device Manager if the driver install is successful you will see Xbox 360 Peripherals at the bottom.
The PS3 controller itself doesn't seem to be recognised by Windows like it (to no effective point) was in 8.

I just got my laptop yesterday with a faulty Windows installation, so had to reinstall myself and the Windows (8.1) is not activated. I red there is no activation code (it's in OEM, allegedly) but as I said, my Windows says it's unregistered. With that in mind, I don't see the Win 10 upgrade icon. Did you have to deal with this as well?

Did you order it with Windows? PCS install a test Windows system so they can check out the laptop, but this is not a freebie for you and you can't legally use it (nor activate it). If you did order Windows with your laptop call PCS for advice.

The free upgrade to Windows 10 is only for activated Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 computers, so unless and until you get a legally activated copy of Windows 8.1 you cannot use the free upgrade service.

I believe that even if you have a pirated version of windows 7/8 you can upgrade to windows 10 and get a legitimate copy for free, saw about it online somewhere

It comes with a stonking big watermark and reduced features if I remember.

FWIW I've just gone back to Windows 8.1.

On my Optimus IV under Windows 10, bluetooth isn't working, the dGPU (NVIDIA) light is on all the time, Windows 10 has lost my card reader (it was working fine, now it's gone) and I have an occasional mouse pointer lag when the system is busy. I actually did a completely clean install from DVD (from the downloaded iso) having already activated Windows 10 via a standard upgrade it activated after the clean install just fine. I installed all the Windows 8 drivers but then Windows 10 updated several of them (and you can't stop it doing that).

It's just not stable enough for me to trust it as my primary OS right now. I'll come back to Windows 10 at the end of the year and see how things are then. A pity because I liked the new look and feel.

Now I understand why it's a free upgrade, because it's not finished.....

You guys shouldn't use Windows 8 drivers for your Windows 10 btw. Selected vendors haven't had a chance to develop Win10 drivers yet.

I've upgraded my own Vortex-3 / P170EM to Win10, and it's been relatively painless. I had to manually install my cardreader drivers, as Windows didn't have them from stock. My security product, Kaspersky, has not been developed properly yet for Win10. There are beta versions, but I would rather wait for the full versions, I think it's the same with other security products as of now :) Also, I experienced issues with the latest Intel RST driver for my RAID Controller [HM77 chipset]. I installed the latest from Intel's website, and it seems to have issues with I/O on RAID setups. When certain conditions are met my RAID-0 would halt all I/O for about 30-40 seconds. It kept doing that every 5 minutes or so, so my system was almost unusable. Rolling back to Windows 10's stock driver solved the issue, so I'm waiting for an updated one from Intel. Otherwise everything is working perfectly fine now :)

Grandmothers and eggs spring to mind....

There are no Windows 10 drivers (that work) for much of my hardware. Windows update updates all drivers that it can but even these don;t work properly. Update said that the driver update to my touchpad, iGPU and dGPU failed, yet a repeat check for updates says all updates installed. Device manager shows these deives as "further installation required" in the Event listing.

Intel's website says that for my iGPU the only Windows 10 driver is the beta delivered by Windows Update. There are no Windows 10 drivers on the manufacturer (or Clevo) sites for the others (ELAN, the touchpad makers don't supply drivers to the public anyway).

I guess it depends on your hardware, but the current drivers on mine don't work completely, that much is clear. It's pointless trying to debug the mouse lag issue with incomplete driver installs. It's possible there may never be Windows 10 drivers for some of my (Optimus IV) hardware........

Yeah with the issues you describe, that is chipset driver issues on a very basic level. Future support would depend on your chipset vendor, it's probably intel? I'm unaware which Clevo model the Optimus IV is based upon, can you check this in CPU-Z / Something similar? Could be interesting to see if other people with similar chipsets has reported the same issues. If it's an intel chipset I think you are in the clear. Dunno about your bluetooth module though, you can always get a new Intel WLAN/Bluetooth combo card, they are fairly cheap these days. In regards to the light: Clevo hasn't made hotkey for Windows 10 yet, as far as I know. The windows 8 version might work, but I'm not keen on the idea of having that piece of plastic software installed, when it's not officially supported for Win10.

15.0.2.361(c) of Kaspersky I am using in Windows 10 is working 100% fine as far as I can tell, and it certainly has all the functionality.
My W8 driver for my firewire audio interface is working fine. My PS3 controller driver developed for W8 is working fine.
There is nothing for me that is not working.

Kaspersky has actually released 16.x.x of their products, that's specifically designed to work with Win 10. I installed it yesterday, and that's working fine for me also :)

I've had another battle with it this morning (that's the benefit of taking disk images, going back to 8.1 is a breeze). I've found, by following something I read on here I think, that by rolling back the failed drivers one at a time and rebooting I can get Windows Update to install the drivers one at a time with a reboot after each and that seems to work. The Intel driver update utility found a Bluetooth driver that Windows Update didn't.

No chipset driver at all, either via Windows update or through the Intel driver update utility (it is an Intel board on the W35_37ET Optimus IV) and I agree that this may well be the root of all issues. On a previous attempt I did install the Win 8 chipset driver from the Clevo site and it made not a scrap of difference to anything.

I only have two issues now: the non-functioning card reader, no better driver than the Windows Update one seems to exist, at least not one from a source I trust, and the occasional mouse pointer freeze when the system is busy. Both would seem to be chipset related. It's strange that the driver update utility finds no new drivers though....

Let's see how this install goes for a while.
