Wireless (Help )

I recently setup my New PCS Computer (upstairs in my bedroom) and also hoped that my new Wireless Virgin Super Hub (downstairs/livingroom) would AT LEAST be able to let me use A basic Wireless Connection for the new PC, just for basic internet browsing for the time being before I buy a Set of Home Plugs for a secure reliable connection.

Set up the new Virgin Wireless Hub about 2 hours ago, But OH NO, not even that is possible, I lost connection even when logging into my PCS Forums account, even the first time going onto Youtube and trying to Install Adobe Flashplayer from the New PC over the internet was a joke. Even trying to download the Google Chrome installer was taking forever so i just canceled the whole thing. The new PC just loses connection too much to be able to surf the Net or get anything done at all. The PC is fine, its amazing, its just internet is rubbish at the moment.

So, now im back downstairs on the old computer typing this thread now in rage and frustration.

The Mobo in my New PC is the P8Z77-V with that Wifi-Go white adapter thing. (Not sure how this works exactly ) But will it help my PC connect to the Wireless Router downstairs at all....? Please if anyone could tell more about it, help set it up, give advice on internet connections or anything, drop a comment on this post because im losing patience. lol :surrender:

Have you connected the antenna,or maybe that's what you mean by the white adaptor?

Well its a Tiny thin little wire, very thin, and at first it didnt seem to fit, just kept falling out, But then with abit more force i think it clicked inside.

So yeah i did that, It didn't light up or anything, (not sure if its meant to) maybe I need to install drivers for it or something. Manuals and booklets and troubleshooting is one of those things I just don't have the patience for, I should try and get some, but I just like being shown or told things not reading jibber jabber booklets :D lol Sorry but im just saying :)

Im just annoyed that the New Wireless hub isnt even gettin me a decent basic connection to the New Pc in my room just for basic surfing. And check this, the guy from Virgin Media who was on the phone to me who activated it for me try to tell me that its enough to play online gaming like warcraft for example. But wait for it.............. :D He didnt even know what home plugs were or how they worked, so I had to explain to him what they were and why I want them because the new Wireless Hub Virgin just gave me is wack and isnt reliable :D lol

I'm not sure what the antenna looks like,it should be in your welcome pack, connecting this to the wireless card at the back of your PC should improve things.

Vanthus, right i plugged it in, and now the signal strength is full bars, grey bottom of the screen and full green bars when i click on it. :) It also picked up 13 more local peoples wireless, where as before i had it plugged in, only picked up 3. 16 others alltogether now :D

# Im now logged in and typing from the new PC because it seems since i plugged in that Asus Adapter for the mobo its much faster and reliable. Signal hasnt been lost so far at all :) staying at full bars! Fingers crossed its that!

Well everything seems to be click click bang bang right now :) So yeah i guess so. The Wifi-Go adapter that comes with the Asus P8Z77-V must be equivalent to a PCI / PCI-E Wifi Adapter i guess. :) http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z77V/ <<< its the White thing in the picture on the site.

Right now i can get on with installing basic things on my new computer now. lol :) Finally

Wondering now whether i will even need a set of home plugs, as the signal has stayed at Full bars and not dropped once so far..... mite be good enough for online gaming......

I use a wireless dongle (*shock...horror*) and have no problems with wireless online gaming. I do plan on upgrading to wired network eventually but that won't be for a while and is out of personal preference rather than performance issues! You will be fine!

Yea I'm surprised you didn't read about me having the same issue with mine. Except I'm very shocked you managed to get wireless at all without the antenna, mine wouldn't even attempt to search for wireless networks.

I too went through all the wifi-go rubbish which turned out to be nothing related to the wireless at all. Your connection should be fine now with the antenna. I use mine for gaming and my ping is always low despite me having poor internet speed anyway. The only thing wireless struggles with seems to be downloads which can be a bit up and down but still bearable. I personally don't think I need homeplugs, my wireless is brilliant.

glad you got it sorted mate :)

if you do intend to get a set of homeplugs in the future (if required) keep your wifi up, as win 7 will connect via wireless and wired at the same time. I dunno if this would increase internet speeds (i doubt it) but anyway.

That Wifi-Go has really made a HUGE difference. Ive got a reliable Wireless connection and haven't lost it at all. :) Really works well. I was so annoyed before :D Was losing it.

I can really notice a difference with everything on this new PC! Even watching youtube videos in 1080p is doing it with eaze :D My old PC couldn't even hack 720p. Ive been watching Skyrim videos, that game looks so amazing! I need to get that soon as i get my GPU! I want that to be my main game. lol

Uninstall Wifi GO! As far as I know it has nothing to do with your connection at all and it purely for linking mobile devices to your pc (I think). Wifi GO had nothing to do with it, it was just sticking the antenna in that fixed it... Infact I'd uninstall Asus Suite II all together.

couldn't disagree more to be honest, Asus suite offers pretty much all of the benefits of having a good motherboard!,

allows you to
- control your cpu/case fan speeds incredibly easily,
- temperature, fan speed, voltage monitoring,
- you can record said data, if you needed too.
- controls the bluetooth on the mobo.
- USb 3.0 AI charger+ allows you to charge devices 3x faster for iphones/pads etc
- usb 3 boost,
-allows you to easily update your motherboard bios!
- these are just what i can do on my older motherboard, new boards will have even more.
-importantly, it gives you warnings if something is going wrong!

if ya dont install this, you are missing out on pretty much all of the features of your motherboard.

+1

Asus suite isn't perfect but it is pretty useful especially if you are not comfortable doing things through the bios (which I think you can do all of its functions through the bios if you know where to go... or I think I can anyway)

Hmm interesting, I'll have to look into this as I only seemed to hear bad things about it but then again I was only really focused on the Fan Xpert side of things which I heard wasn't always that accurate and now I prefer it much more leaving my fans on default and letting them do it's own thing. I haven't really required the USB 3 features yet which is probably which I haven't bothered and I suppose I thought a lot of it was bloatware more than anything. I shall have to give it another shot it seems.

I havent installed anything called Wifi-Go myself manually using the the Mobo's disc. I havent even inserted the Asus Mobo disc since I got the PC. When I said "Wifi-Go" I was just generally was referring to the White Adapter that I plugged into the back of the Mobo, and since then connection and speed has been reliable and fast. :)

But maybe I should think about installing anything/everything that comes on the disc for added benefits, or just out of curiosity. I kinda skimmed through the Asus website about the features of my Mobo, but lost patience with reading. :D lol When I decided to look through the Manuals aswell, i'll admit, alot of it I didnt even know what it was talking about and i didn't understand.

Basically on the Asus disk there's a feature called Wifi GO! which I originally installed as I thought that may be how to activate the mobo's wireless (this was before I discovered the antenna).

From what Tom said though it definitely sounds worth it to get the other features on the mobo disc. I wasn't keen on Fan Xpert because my fans were constantly running pretty slow even on 'turbo' mode. This could be because I wasn't doing that demanding tasks or because there was a fault in the setup so I opted to just go back to default speeds and let it do it the way it wants. It was useful though if you wanted to turn them down while browsing or watching videos though which is one feature I miss.

As for the rest like Bluetooth and USB 3.0, etc. I haven't had much need myself but if it's something you think you could use then it would be worth the download :) Quite a few features on Asus Suite are aimed at overclockers though which is why I probably thought I didn't need it x)

hey,

I found that the turbo profile wasnt fast enough for me too, (cpu fans) So i created my own "user" profile.

here's a picture of how mine are set up. as the fans are pretty quiet i have them spinning quite quick.
