Over time storage prices might be coming down, but thanks to the state of the £ and apparently the NAND shortage they've gone up. This is why a 250gb 850 Evo costs as much as I bought my 500gb one for :/

I'm not convinced the OP will derive any measurable benefit from the i7. They've not specified exactly what they'll be using the laptop for. However, it's it's general office work, content streaming from the internet, etc then they may prefer to save £ instead as they'll get basically no perceptible performance increase. That said, the i7 is only £59 (7%) more than their original quote and may allow the laptop to be repurposed for more things in the future (e.g. editing home movies), so it's very much the OP's call as to whether it's worth it.

See https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-briefs/dual-band-wireless-ac-8260-brief.pdf. It seems that vPro is a technology aimed at businesses to make remote PC management easier. At least that's what it appears to say there. :)

I'll stick with the not Pro version then. The laptop will be a day to dayer, general surfing and shopping, no gaming, but may need to handle downloading some largish files. If i'm not going to get anything significant from an i7 then an i5 it is. Put off ordering until tomorrow evening to see if anything else of interest is mentioned here.

Lappy ordered. Went with upping to an i7, dropped the wireless to the not Pro version and changed the ssd to the 961. Thanks for all the advice, Cheers!

Good news, do let us know how you like it when it arrives.

Also, if you think that some members have been particularly helpful it's a good idea to increase their reputation. You can do that by clicking on the star icon under their avatar on the post(s) that most helped you. Not only is this a nice way to say thank-you to people who have helped you, but by increasing the reputation of people who give good advice you help others see which member's posts they can most trust.

BTW. I'm not fishing for personal rep here. I haven't helped you at all despite having posted, but some of the other posters seem to have given you some very good advice and help. :)

vPro is a part of Intel's management system so yeah you would derive precisely zero benefit had you gone for it.

In fact, it came to light just a few weeks ago that their management chips could give full and remote access to a user if they sent a blank username and password...
