It worked. I've ordered an SSD, was planning an upgrade anyway. Thankfully I backed up not so long ago so no real harm done. Thanks all ☺️

Thanks for the advice everyone. After much fannying about I've swapped the hard drive from an old laptop and reinstalled windows from the Win installer usb. If this works I'll just get a better hard drive and consign the old one to the dust :)

Nothing. When I start the computer it goes straight to that screen and stays there. No options to do anything, bios, whatever. I can only shut it down by holding the power button til it turns off. Then I turn it on, back to that same screen. Ad infinitum

Tried Windows Installer on a usb last night but no joy

Win 10 installed yes It just goes straight to that screen. Even after shut down it always said resume from hibernation. The only Win recovery disk I have on usb and it's not recognising that

My laptop suddenly won't get past this screen (attached) I've tried a recovery disk usb which worked once but not again. I can't access bios as this is the only screen to appear. I've looked inside and there's nothing obvious disconnected or loose. It's 6 years old, so not a spring chicken, but...
