I may have misunderstood things here and I apologise if I have. You can select multiple files at once and then change them all away from read only by unticking that box. There are several ways of selecting multiple files in Windows.

When you say you "going to the boot menu" did you mean in the BIOS or in Windows? I apologise if you already know this but just making sure that you know you can enter the BIOS and alter the boot menu without getting as far as Windows.

Do you have an old PC from which you can transfer the Windows licence? That should be a significant saving for you at this price.
