Battlefield 3 Beta Early Access

Anyone else finding the recoil a lot harder to control than in Bad Company 2? I am constantly getting assists instead of actual kills at the moment! d'oh!

yeah, I took the sights of the recon rifles, so I can still be a marksman but without that daft glare.

Not so much daft, but realistic (although slightly too glarey, but still realistic) I hate games that dont use things like glare of scopes and bullet drop, Battlefield is deffinately going the right direction.

Is anyone else experiencing weird bugs? If you go onto the pause screen just before you die, when you spawn everything is all blue! I went through the floor on one map as well.

Also I've noticed the rocket launcher is very buggy, and if you die before your rocket hits something it just disappears in thin air, which is seriously irritating. Am finding the engineer class to have really underpowered guns compared to the other glasses as well.

What do you guys think? I have to admit I thought I was going to be a lot more blown away, but I actually am finding it a rather frustrating game to play. I love the realism but it just seems a bit 'rushed' in certain areas. (No 'beta' spiel, the games a month away from release, this is a glorified demo.)

I dont think you have any way of commenting on whether this is a beta or not, by the sounds of it you have no experience with code development or the software lifecycle. I dont see it as rushed, I see it as buggy, all games are in beta stages, whether open or closed. You may find it irritating but tbh I couldnt care less, if you found the full game irritating then yes of course it would be concerning, but again we arrive back at the same point ITS A BETA.

A month is a long time in software development., a very very long time. With a 10 man team (a lot less than they have) thats still 1400 man hours of development / bug fixing. Increasing power of weapons, sway amount on snipers, can be done in minutes, deciding if a game object gets destroyed on player death can also be done in relatively little time. Pretty much every bug you have mentioned is a minor issue which can be solved in less than half a day.

Unless you actually have experience developing, you really have no place to comment on how it cant be a beta being this close to release.

im not a fan of sniping in games. I find they tend to get in the way of the missions rather than help them. Its not so bad in clan matches when people agree that they only need 1 or 2 snipers. But in public servers it can get really irritating. I loved MOH but the sniping was just crazy.

BF3 seems to have a decent mix. Ok u can still snipe but everyone has a better chance of seeing u thanks to the glare thing. Its over done but for my play style i feel it adds to the fun, it feels fairer.

Not really sure I need any experience in developing to note that a month before release isn't very long. Of course they don't have a month left to sort out bugs as the game will surely need to be in production for a good few weeks to get it on the shelves? You seem unreasonable defensive however, I never made out those bugs were huge issues. I'm pretty sure the rocket launcher thing is going to be in the final game though, as it was in BC2.

All I have to compare it to is other betas I've played, which have all been months before release, but still less buggy than Operation Metro seem to be.

frenchy give up these are some nasty Trolls your fighting here but just to point out the alpha was only a month or so before the beta and its moved on alot since then. the fact everyone played minecraft for months without realizing it was a beta and there was no downtime between beta and final realse shows it can be done relativly easy and on the fly. im a big dice fan and to think they have many teams not just the 10man dice team but the frostbite 2 engine guys and so on. even if the final product has issues i couldnt care less because i know they will be fixed so trolls give it a rest and leave frenchy alone.

I found that there was alot of issues with the alpha game, however it appears to have improved quite majorly and all my personal issues with it have been addressed so far regarding the beta. My biggest gripe is that they are advertising buggy 'beta' drivers (which work for some people but not for others) which really interfere with gameplay (major stuttering, overheating and crashing). Issues naturally will be addressed and I have odd faith in DICE to do that, I do think however that it was a tad silly releasing the password for the Caspian border servers just to close them down less than 24 hours later.

Not having any experience on top of not knowing the structure of the company, software dev process they are using, bug fixing timelines etc is precisley the reason you are in no position to state a month is not long enough. For a start you are assuming that all the bugs are related to the software that gets shipped on the disc, this just isn't the case. Many of the bugs will be server side and can continue to be fixed till the day of release.

You also cannot compare this beta to other developers betas, they have use different dev plans, have different number of coders, even have different number of testers, all these factors make it impossible (unless you have far more information) to judge anything to do with amount of time it will take them to address any issues.

As I pointed out before, the link you posted seems to have an active involvement from the dev team or other members of the DICE, Origin teams attempting to solve the issues. What more could you possibly ask from them?

luckily the multiplayer can be left buggy up to the final day because any one playing online will obviously have to do an update, but campaign must be pretty bug free because of people not on line

The glare is not actually very realistic. scopes/optics are designed so they don't reflect light, they have actually been like this for a number of years.

Yeah but on older scopes its not, apparently theyre thinking of bringing in betrter scopes with less glare later on, as an unlock

yeah older scopes will have glare, but bet the soldiers on the ground found a way to prevent it,

anyway would be a good idea for better scopes as a reward, so you have to work your way up to a decent rifle/optics

What's the cheapest pre order price anyone has found? Cheapest I've found is about £29 for Limited Edition. Does anyone know if you can get it cheaper anywhere else, digital download included?

haha, after moaning about not getting my code before the beta went open i got a 15% discount code for any purchase on origin

15% isn't much given all games on Origin are quite overpriced. I personally pre-ordered BF3 (Limited) from Game @ £29.99, though I used some reward points to get it down to about £27.49.

More gripes:

You can only pause when in game to change settings/key bindings etc. Thus forcing you to stare at the death screen every time.
The fact different factions have different weapons. I hate not being able to use my favourite guns because I'm not the correct 'faction'.
