Hi, can any of you kind people help me solve this issue, Going to try and explain this the best i can, here goes. I bought my rig 3 to 4 years ago from PCS, Ive had a few GPU driver issues (560 ti) which is now sorted.
It's been running fine for just over 2 years, When Yesterday i was on twitter and my GPU drivers stopped responding, like they did with the old problem.
Only this time the error message and black screen kept coming up. So i rebooted back into windows Disabled the 560 in device manager and uninstalled the drivers, installed the latest drivers re enabled and rebooted.
Then every time the windows start screen had just finished loading, it would freeze then BSOD.
I loaded into safe mode uninstalled all NVIDIA drivers using driver sweeper, and tried installing the driver CD that came with the GPU, Same thing happened. This time it would hangup just after the windows start screen.
Tried to do a clean install with the latest drivers again now the NVIDIA installer would give me an error saying, cant find compatible device or something along those lines.
Next thing i tried was moving the GPU to the next slot changed the PCIe setting in the bios same thing happened. I don't know much when it comes to bios settings, so just switched to the IGPU. Obviously it loaded into windows this time. Now this is the real strange part, when i shut down the PC and power it back up it cold boots in a loop.
To stop it i have to unplug my keyboard i then get a the no keyboard detected screen pop up, plug it in back and windows loads successfully. I loaded CPU-Z up and noticed the PC had auto overclocked it's self, now every time i try to load default settings from the bios. Hit save and reset it gets stuck in a cold boot loop again until i do the thing where i unplug my keyboard. When i load windows back up its overclocked again, so my bios settings are not saving. Sorry for long thread im just stuck, don't know what to do never encountered a problem like this.
Id very much appreciate any help, thanks so much in advance.

PC specs are in my signature.

Look at my CPU-Z and RealTemp readings -

With a computer 3 to 4 years old having apparent BIOS issues my first thought would be to replace the CMOS battery. They cost only pennies so I'd suggest you get a replacement CMOS battery and install that and then see how it goes from there.

Hello

Try and clear CMOS by using the jumper on your motherboard. Exact steps to do this, on your motherboard, can be found in the manual, Page 2-20: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb...68-V.zip?_ga=1.66672622.1355243603.1432841400

If it still doesn't work, try and remove the CMOS Battery completely for 30 secs, while clearing CMOS again with the switch, like it states in the manual.

Thanks for your advice mate ill give it a try and let you know how i get on.

Ok i haven't tried clearing the CMOS just yet. Was just reading the manual, i noticed at the bottom of the page 2-20. It says, you do not need to clear the RTC when the system hangs due to overclocking, and to use the CPR feature.
Which automatically resets parameter default values. Even though i didn't overclock my self the PC did that automatically, so was thinking shall i try that first?

Yeah sure, you could try that first :)

Cool, i cleared the CMOS it seems to have fixed the cold boot loop issue. But still doesn't save any bios settings so its stuck overclocked.
As for the C.P.R feature, i can't seem to find it anywhere?

Change the CMOS battery, as I said they cost pennies. Even if its not the problem (and it well might be) it's worth doing on a PC of that age.

That's strange. Maybe check if you have some pre-saved settings in your Tools -> ASUS O.C Profile in BIOS? Otherwise try updating/reflash BIOS. Instructions for that can also be found in manual on 3-32.

Yeah man its puzzling, there is one ASUS O.C profile but i didn't make it. Can i disable that profile? Ive never flashed a PC is it easy?

Hi Johnny, sorry for the slow response.

You might want to delete that ASUS O.C profile. By default, there shouldn't be any profiles, and that's why your PC is permanently overclocked. And yeah, the process of flashing a BIOS has been simplified a lot over the years. As previously mentioned, just refer to your motherboard manual from page 3-32 for a step by step instruction. You can get the ASUS EZ Update utility here: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb...0008.zip?_ga=1.60956140.1353611404.1433165923 - It might be depending on ASUS AI Suite to be installed, which you can get from here: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mi...in7.zip?_ga=1.263282124.1353611404.1433165923

If you are using Windows 8.1, you should get this instead: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mi...0012.zip?_ga=1.95452892.1353611404.1433165923

Hey, no worries mate.

There was no O.C profile installed my mistake. So, i have now updated my BIOS to the latest version, seems the issue is still there, still overclocked and wont save defaults? It cold boots once, again, like it was before. Thinking maybe its an issue with my PSU not sure?

Device manager now detects my GPU, but has this error; A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

Do you think a windows reinstall/repair would help?

Edit; Just cant think why the system wants to auto overclock. I done a test in AI Suite using Tubo Evo utility. The options to apply OS default settings are blanked out, but if i lower the CPU frequency the restore OS defaults Apply button option is available. When i apply it, it shows the overclocked frequency, as the OS default settings?

Well and truly mate, its driving me slightly nuts haha. Where would be the best place to order a CMOS battery? I do have a secondary P.C could i use the one from that?

I'll give the driver thing ago again, i did try that before but the installer wouldn't finish.

Thanks for all your help so far man, i really appreciate it.

Edit; Ok, done a clean driver install, just as windows goes to load, boom! BSOD. Could the GPU be dead?

Most shops that sell batteries will have them. Take a look at the identification number on yours (it's a round flat battery) and go and buy a replacement. They do rarely fail and they generally last for years but every now and then you'll get a duff one. It's so cheap and so easy to replace it's always the first thing I'd do with a problem like this.

I'm curious, did these driver issues occur at the same time your BIOS issues occurred? Code 32 is usually windows registry related or just a bad driver: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/310123#32

Could you provide a dxdiag (Windows button + R -> type in dxdiag -> Run 64bit dxdiag -> Save all information) for me, and a minidump from your latest BSoD you mentioned? You can find the minidumps under \Windows\minidumps

Thanks.

Hi sorry for the late reply. Yeah, the issue happen at the same time. So This is where im at, i replaced the CMOS battery loaded default BIOS settings. PC seemed to boot up fine, i checked device manager and my GPU was recognized and working properly. i then checked to see if the overclock had been removed, but it still remains overclocked? I opened up firefox and straight away the driver stopped responding message popped up and the system rebooted its self.
Went back in the BIOS loaded defaults once saved, the PC cold booted once then back into windows. I had to switch back to the IGPU, im now getting some strange windows errors.

Check out these screenshots;

This now happens when i open firefox;

Sure, i cant seem to attach the minidump or the dxdiag file, the Dmp file says i need permission.

I now have 84 system processes running too :(

I believe these issues to be seperate.

Issue #1: GPU still doesn't work, different error code. Error code 12.
->Potential solution: Error code 12 seems to be related to some strange resource issues, probably IRQ related. According to your motherboard manual, PCI-E x16 slot 1 and 2, shares IRQ with the USB 3.0 Controller and the onboard Intel graphics card. If those drivers are severely outdated, I could see this causing an issue for your main GPU. Either update those drivers, or test your card in PCI-E x16 Slot 3 which doesn't share IRQ with your USB 3.0 Controller and Intel graphics card. That would be the very bottom PCI-E Slot on your motherboard. It only operates at x4 mode, but you can try and put it into that slot for testing purposes. You could also try and disabling the onboard graphics card and USB 3.0 controller in BIOS.

Issue #2: CPU remains overclocked with the new CMOS battery
->Need more info: Please provide a screenshot/picture of where you see the CPU remains overclocked

Issue #3: Firefox now loads the mysearch.avg site as a startup page
->Solution: Remove the search engine from Firefox and/or change the start page in firefox. You can also reset your firefox completely by following the steps described on this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings - You probably also want to scan your PC for malware, using this: https://www.malwarebytes.org/

Issue #4: Windows update can't check for updates. Error code 80072F8F.
->Solution: Make sure your System Date/time is set correctly in BIOS. When that is done, check that it's also correct in Windows. Then it should definitely work.

Regarding the minidumps and DXdiag: You can upload them to filedropper.com and link them here
