What happened here? I totally missed this. The biggest thing for me is that Rick Moranis is signed! Such a shame that he had to leave the spotlight all those years ago, but an absolute legend for doing so with the circumstances.
What happened here? I totally missed this.
My wife died at the height of my fame. I quit Hollywood to raise my kids and have no regrets.
Rick Moranis married costume designer Ann Belsky in 1986, and together they built a quiet life away from the Hollywood spotlight, raising two children. But tragedy struck when Ann passed away from cancer in 1991, leaving Rick a widower and a single father.
At the height of his fame, with blockbuster roles in Ghostbusters, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and Spaceballs, Moranis made a decision that stunned Hollywood. In 1997, he stepped away from acting almost entirely not because he had to, but because he wanted to be there for his children.
The spotlight faded, but his love for his family never did. When asked about leaving his career behind, he didn’t express regret or longing for the fame he once had. Instead, he simply said, "I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. My life is wonderful."
Rick Moranis became one of the rare celebrities who chose family over fame. And in doing so, he became a quiet hero—not on the big screen, but in the everyday moments that mattered most.![]()
