PCSPECIALIST Pro photographer's spec - scratch disk advice!

I wouldn't recommend partitioning for those uses outlined above. Partitioning should be limited to exclusive uses of the drive. Storage would be fine, if it wasn't being used for the fast storage to feed the project you are working on. If you were to use it for that and the scratch, you would...

    PCSPECIALIST PC Game Deals!

Not PC but Hogwarts Legacy has been added to PS Plus library if anyone has the subscription. I thoroughly enjoyed the game. NBA 2K25, Alone in the Dark, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Destiny 2: The Final Shape are the monthly games. Added them to my library but pretty much Meh.... although I've always...

    PCSPECIALIST Gaming Desktop Advice

Not that long ago a 1080p build was around £1k, a 1440p build was £1.5k and a 4k build was £2k. In each instance the GPU made up around 30-50% of those costs. Those percentages haven't changed, but unfortunately the price of the GPU to achieve those levels has doubled. At the same time...

PCSPECIALIST First Gaming PC, Please Advise!

Hi there, Can you please stop creating new threads. It's far easier for others to see the advice that has gone before if you stick to the one thread. I'm having to keep going in and tidy up with each new creation.

    PCSPECIALIST Gaming Desktop Advice

It's a shame that there aren't any fast 500GB drives anymore, I liked them to keep the thought process in check for habits. I don't like waste either, so around 150-200GB was typically my primary drive (still is). When I upgraded to my latest system the best drives were 1TB so I went with that...

PCSPECIALIST First PC Build for 4K Gaming, VR (Meta Quest 3), and Sim Racing – Need Feedback & Compatibility Check!

They aren't that close, as explained above. I have said already that it will do a reasonable job at 4k, this isn't the contention. I didn't want you getting the wrong idea about "max" settings. If you were to maximise all the settings in those games you mention, it's very likely that you would...

PCSPECIALIST First PC Build for 4K Gaming, VR (Meta Quest 3), and Sim Racing – Need Feedback & Compatibility Check!

Like I said, I have a 5090 and I couldn't max out all settings on all games at 4k and expect optimal frame rates (144hz). If the 5070 Ti could max out settings at 4k what would be the point of the 5080 and 5090? It's just logic. With VR it's even more unlikely as you are rendering 2 different...

    PCSPECIALIST Gaming on Linux

I haven't tried it personally either. The only way I can think of MacGyvering it would be to enable the SATA ports which I think would disable one of them :ROFLMAO:

Thought I would pull some of these comparisons together, finished messing around with it earlier on. 4080 Founders Edition 7800X3D DOCP I, GPU Default Stock https://www.3dmark.com/fs/33387128 Taking the GPU as far as I could, CPU had a reasonable OC as well (Highest FE in Firestrike)...

SFF will make a pretty big difference too I imagine. The 50mhz boost definitely makes a difference, also, as this allows the frequency to go past the stock boost levels. It's limited to 50Mhz on the 7800X3D but other chips are 200Mhz. Currently playing with the 9800X3D now (seeing 5.6Ghz at...

This run here had a more extreme CPU overclock. https://www.3dmark.com/fs/31472282 That was some pretty significant tweaking to voltages & RAM timings etc. That's when I was taking my chip to the limit, but I don't have any notes on how I got there. Just the memory of painstaking hours of...

I think it's possibly cooler related. I have an open bench with a 360mm cooler on it, which allows it to run at max as long as the temp doesn't go above a certain level. When in it's normal resting place I typically get below 5Ghz, this run was in an open room which helped. Other than that the...

PCSPECIALIST First PC Build for 4K Gaming, VR (Meta Quest 3), and Sim Racing – Need Feedback & Compatibility Check!

The build above is ideal for the budget. I just want to highlight that the 5070Ti will perform admirably for your uses, but you're not going to be maxing anything at 4k. If the Sim Racing is for VR, you're not going to be able to max the settings there either as there are some real resource...

PCSPECIALIST Have I made a mistake?

Frame 4000D RS will take those components no problem, not sure why they would suggest otherwise. 4000D could be different though, but you don't want that case when the RS Frame is available.

PCSPECIALIST Have I made a mistake?

Always best to get advice before taking the leap. There may be other areas of concern in your build (The case for starters). Everything will work, the config creator ensures compatibility, but value for money and ideal selections can be easily overlooked or misunderstood.

PCSPECIALIST Super high end build spec advice sought

The link at the bottom of Tony's post has you covered. As above, changing other bits and bobs will likely reduce the overall balance of the build as the choices made previously were pretty wild.
